The South Tyrolean Apple PGI

South Tyrol is Europe’s largest self-contained apple-growing region, accounting for over 10% of the annual European apple crop. South Tyrol’s orchards are sited on fertile soils where the trees are cultivated according to natural, ecological principles. Altitudes range from 250 to 1,100 metres above sea level where warm sunny days alternate with cool nights, providing the ideal conditions to yield juicy, crunchy apples with firm pulp. They are sweet, tangy and intense in flavour with fresh aromas and characterised by strong colouring and excellent keeping qualities.
