South Tyrolean bread and bakery specialities
No other Italian region boasts such a wide and diversity of bread varieties and creative bakery products compared with South Tyrol. Bakers’ shelves are filled with a vast range of products to choose from, from the famous Schüttelbrot (“shaken bread”), the Pusterer Breatln (flattened rolls) to Vinschger Paarl (pairs of flattened rolls) and apple strudel. These typical South Tyrolean bread varieties have evolved over centuries to become an expression of regional and cultural identity. South Tyrolean bread is still baked according to traditional recipes which bakery families jealously guard as secrets.
