Grappa with the South Tyrol Quality Symbol

Grappa is rather singular in that it is a marc brandy, obtained from a by-product of winemaking, i.e. grape skins from which the new wine has been either run off or the juice pressed out. It can only be produced by direct distillation from grape skins and must meet high standards in order to qualify for the South Tyrol Quality Symbol. The grape skins must come exclusively from South Tyrol and be processed by South Tyrolean distilleries. South Tyrolean wines win awards the world over for their distinctive aromas and flavours imparted by soils and the region’s unique climate, characteristics which are also found in the grappa. South Tyrol’s stillmen are adept at ensuring the pure aromas are transferred to the grappa without the faintest hint of off flavours.
