South Tyrolean medicinal and culinary herbs

In South Tyrol herbs have been collected or grown in vegetable gardens since time immemorial. A number of them may now be distinguished with the South Tyrol Quality Symbol, among them lemon balm, marigolds, corn flowers and several varieties of mint. South Tyrolean medicinal and culinary herbs are unusually strong in aroma. They are cultivated strictly according to ecological or integrated production principles and are ideal for flavouring food and drinks, for making infusions and herb pillows. They must be cultivated in gardens remote from large towns, conurbations and roads carrying heavy traffic at altitudes of at least 500 metres above sea level.
